  • An absent after-opening entry must not be replaced with an unopened interval.

A white surface "blush" is just dryness and is safe after rinsing; discard carrots that are slimy or smell sour.

How to tell if it's gone bad

Normal appearance and smell do not prove food is safe. Disease-causing bacteria may be present without visible spoilage. Never taste food to test its safety; follow time, temperature and recall guidance. FDA — Storage Basics

  • Look:White blush, black spots, mould
  • Smell:Sour or fermented smell
  • Texture:Soft, rubbery, or slimy texture

When in doubt, throw it out. If Carrots smells, looks, or feels off — discard it. Food poisoning is not worth the risk.

Can you freeze Carrots?

Listed quality estimate: Carrots keeps 8–12 monthsat continuously 0°F (−18°C) or below, if safe when frozen. Check the source status on the storage card; this is not a discard deadline.

Blanch carrots before freezing to preserve their colour, flavour, and nutrients — sliced or diced pieces need only a couple of minutes in boiling water followed by an ice bath. Drain, then freeze them spread on a tray before bagging. They keep 8–12 months. Cook them straight from frozen; thawed raw carrots go soft, so they suit soups and stews.

Storage tips

Remove leafy green tops, which pull moisture from the roots, and store carrots in the crisper. Submerging peeled carrots in water keeps them crisp for days.

Check your storage dates

Compare the elapsed time with the storage guidance. This cannot certify that food is safe.

Use the actual purchase, cooking, opening or thawing date for the selected state. For the freezer, use the freezing date. Do not reset time by repackaging.
Fridge: 4°C / 40°F or below. Freezer: continuously −18°C / 0°F or below, frozen before the refrigerated limit. Pantry: follow the label. Leave unchecked if uncertain.
